I like bands who do covers. Why? Well, they take someones music that they enjoy and they make it their own. It's ace. So. Here's a band who had their first EP of covers and is working on some original music as well.
I give you The Silhouette Poets.
--------------
So, whom do I have the pleasure of speaking with?
This is Jay. I play guitar and the keyboard
How'd you get this band together?
It actually started with a Straylight Run cover me and a friend did just for fun. I eventually sent it to Will Noon from Straylight Run and he posted a blog about it on their Myspace. the song got a lot of feedback that I decided to continue doing covers. My second cover of Dashboard Confessional's "Don't Wait" made some noise on myspace, even got radio play on local college station on Long Island. After my third cover of Radiohead's "Fake Plastic Trees" I decided I wanted to start writing covers. I met Michael through a friend of mine. I showed him what I had written and we put together an EP that we are currently working on and plan on releasing hopefully this fall.
Where do you get the inspiration for your music?
As far as the instruments go I main influences are Dashboard Confessional, The Counting Crows, Radiohead, and Jimmy Eat World. I've been trying recently to get into other bands both new and old, trying to incorporate whatever comes into my life into my writing.. I've found myself listening to a lot of Bruce Springsteen, The Spill Canvas, Metallica, Weezer, Matt Nathanson, and Tegan & Sara lately. I'm really trying to keep my musical influences open these days so no one thinks we're just another Dashboard Confessional.
Favourite food?
Italian food is what makes the world go around.
If you weren't making music, what do you think you'd be doing?
Exactly what I am doing now. Trying to figure out my path in life. My dream is to make it in music but I am also very realistic and know that may not happen. So I plan on going back to school eventually but I'll never forget what my dream is.
What are somethings that are important to you?
Friends, music, life, being happy are what are most important to me right now.
Favourite book?
I'll admit I don't read nearly enough to have a favorite book. I am currently reading "The Never Enders" by my lead singer Michael Sonbert.
What do you think of his book?
I think it is very well written. I am enjoying it a lot. I would definitely recommend it to people. http://www. amazon. com/Never-Enders-Michael-Sonbert/dp/1596
=UTF8&s=books&qid=1221499943&sr=1-1 ( CHECK IT OUT !! )
Favourite thing to do aside from making music?
Well I'm a pretty chill guy. I like to hang out with my friends and enjoy the time I have with them. I'm a bog movie fan. My DVD collection is quite large lol. I've been dabbling a little in screen play writing. I just do whatever keeps me busy
If you go back to school, have any ideas of what you'd like to do?
Unfortunately not, I have my associates in Liberal Arts but I have no idea where I want to go from there. School is very important and I want to go back badly. I just want to know first what to go back for.
What are some of your favourite movies?
The Dark Knight is definitely up there with one of my favorite movies just because Heath Ledger was brilliant as the Joker. I i big nerd when it comes to the Star Wars and Lord Of The Rings movies. Anything Tim Burton is attached to pretty much comes out flawless. I'm a huge fan of his
If you could be any animal, what do you think you'd want to be?
Raptor... you know the dinosaur lol
What are some things you hate about the media?
Not so much the media I hate as much as I hate the music industry. The amount of pressure they put on bands is ridiculous with touring and recording and PR.
Places you'd like to play in?
Well I've only played on Long Island so anywhere really. Not a helpful answer.
-----------------
Jay is a pretty epic guy. He and Michael have a great deal of talent. I seriously suggest checking them out. We can expect great things from Long Island, it seems.

Certain things make me happy in this world. I love Harry Potter, Tim Burton, the color green...But those things don't always make me get up and start dancing. Music can do that, but not every kind. I'm not going to have a happy dance party while listening to Beethoven or Andrea Bocelli. Synthetic Season does the job though.
Here's the kid beyond that dance party
I give you Ash - who is Synthetic Season.
Ash!
www.myspace.com/thesyntheticseason
--------------
I love your unique sound. Where do you get the inspiration for it?
Well i would be lying if i said the dance/pop/autotune approach wasn't influenced by bands like hellogoodbye, the secret handshake etc. but I LOVE daft punk, so I could say they are the biggest influence for me wanting to play danceable music!
So I'm reading your 30 random facts blog and it says you're straight edge. I think that's amazing but I'm friends with many musicians and only one is straight edge. Is it hard for you?
Not at all. Everyone chooses their lifestyle and its down to them to decide what works and what doesn't. fortunately for me, cutting out all that crap from my life works just perfect for me =]
You say [in your 30 random facts] you write a lot. Do you write only songs or other things?
If I need to let my mind out, I sometimes sit on my window ledge and put pen to paper. It's nothing productive, just personal enjoyment.
I've also started to put together a small collection of Tim Burton esque short stories/ poems. It's pretty fun!
I'm guessing you're a Tim Burton fan?
I love Tim Burton, everything he comes out with is amazing!
Edward Scissorhands was my all time favorite childhood movie!
The book 'The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy' is also incredible! My girlfriend gave me a whole load of collectible figures of the characters in it, they sit happily on top of my speakers =]
In reference again to your blog- You want to live in the States? Why?
I guess everyone has different views on anywhere that isn't their home. Like, everyone i speak to from the US say they really want to visit the UK and im like WHY!!??
Like an image of gentlemen sitting in a park for a lunch of tea and crumpets or something haha
I visited US not so long ago and there is just so much that you would never see in the UK.
plus... i LOVE target ;]
What are some of the differences you found in the UK versus the US?
Friendliness...
That's the MAIN noticeable difference of the US.
You hear a whole load of 'have a nice day' 'your welcome' and 'how are you today'
Genuine kindness, it goes a LONG way with me!
also target ;] target is awesome!
And I hear there's vegan food places all over the US, that's something SO rare in the UK!
Like, there's this one place in London that i love! they do the best vegan thai food ever! But other than that, its a slim market.
Perhaps i should open a vegan restaurant instead of making music! haha.
Where do you hope to be music-wise 5 years from now?
Maybe 3rd album? If people can put up with me that long! haha. Touring a whole load. Meeting a whole load of people. Getting tattooed some more =]
What occupies your free time?
I love to paint in my spare time, I paint a whole load of tattoo flash.
Listen to music, make music, skate with friends, get tattooed, eat, watch nickelodeon.
When people listen to your music, what do you want them to feel?
Happy! I want people to listen to my music and dance around in their bedrooms like no one is watching!
When they see synthetic season live, I want them to jump about, sing along with their friends and get the sense of a complete party!
------------
Ash's music really makes me want to start dancing. He doesn't have any shows planned but he is working on a new EP. After that I foresee plenty of shows! Be on the lookout- Ash has talent and I see great things from him.

I know I'm totally going to take away from the ace factor of this band if I talk to much here. To spare you all the pain, I'm just going to say they're fantastic and hot.
Anyway- I bring you Jako Hooper, Guitar and Vocals of The Rylics!
Jako Hooper of The Rylics
www.myspace.com/therylics
-----------
How did The Rylics get together?
The band started when Rudi moved over to England from Ireland and moved down the road from me.
We quickly became friends and starting jamming together in his living room on his drum kit and my acoustic drum kit,he at the time was about 9 and i was 11.
We got a bass player through a friend and things began to kick off nicely, after a short while it was agreed that our bass player at that time should leave and when he did i spoke to my mate Tom who i knew was a cracking bass player.
Since he has joined the fusion has been great and weve been together for over 4 years now and are loving playing together.
What's the relationship like with your bandmates?
relationship with bandmates is fantastic,
two of my closest friends and thats likewise with them too,
spend every day with those jokers.
Where do you get the inspiration for your music?
Inspiration comes from many different places,
not just in music with regards to bands but emotions and situations.
I write the lyrics and mainly are influenced by personal experiences and emotions that have come
my way.
Anger, frustration, joy, love, jealousy etc.
Musically, all three of us are into all kinds of stuff.
From the mad rock trio of The Vines to the more obscure bands such as Anthony And The Johnsons. Classic bands like Pink Floyd are a favourite with Tom, he is also into a lot of modern day rock. Rudi is into a lot of modern dance and electronic based music and i myself listen to a lot of electronic based shenanigans. (65DaysOfStatic, eDIT, Squarepusher etc). So hopefully we will keep developing as we get older and not just stick to one main genre, this is already beginning to come out in our new songs.
Favourite food?
Favourite food?
Oh my...
Now personally im an insane addict for Chicken Korma.
Its just too good,
Give me a chicken korma and a fruit and nut chocolate bar and its all good,
-i'm yours.
I really need to ask this...What do you like about chicken korma?
Chicken korma is food of the gods,
thats all there is to it.
If you weren't making music, what do you think you'd be doing?
If i wasnt making music...
Ha.
Erm.
I'de probably be doing something really boring,
i would probably just be painting and decorating for £4.00 an hour for a guy called Glen,
who is well rude and always pays me really late.
Thats probably where im heading in about 10 years time...
Do you really think that's where you're headed or that you'll be able to keep up the music?
i'll definitely be keeping up the music,
thats the only thing im really capable of doing.
So i'll be around a while yet ;)
In your spare time, what do you like to do?
Spare time consists of making funny noises with my pedals, eating korma, sleeping, eating other stuff, boogying on down at a partay and spending time with my gorgeeeous girlfriend.
What are somethings that are important to you?
Important stuffff...
Trust is always very important, especially in relationships. -not just with the other sex but with friends. I feel that if you dont have total trust with a friend then there not a friend.
Stupidity is something thats important to me.
Without it the world would be a boring place but there are some people who unfortunately delge into it a little too often, therefore they quickly become labelled "a dick".
Other important stuff is sleep.
You have to sleep.
its very important.
-----------
I love The Rylics in every way. They're all adorable, which is a major plus, and talented to the extreme. And I had such a hard time picking photos for this because they're so bloody good looking. But really, the songs are amazing. The chemistry between the members is obviously great because of the sound that comes out of it.
See what random Myspace friend requests lead to? Now I have a new band to love and so do my sexy readers.

Here's Diminishing Returns!
www.myspace.com/diminishingreturns
-----------
What made you start Diminishing Returns?
i've been in bands most of my life, diminishing returns was a project started between me & my best friend in 2003. he was in school & becoming a lawyer & now it's just me, but he still plays shows with me, even if i'm technically a solo artist now.
I saw that you support To Write Love On Her Arms. What about the cause prompted you to support?
twloha is a good cause that i support because i've been effected by suicide. too many of us have. & far too many of us personally by depression.
Looking at your show schedule, it says you're headed to the UK to play in December. How does it feel to not only play in the States, but being able to go play there as well?
we were in the uk most of july on an acoustic tour with a band from london. we get a pretty good response over there, & much of the itunes sales come from there. so i can't wait to get back.
What other places would you like to tour in?
country wise? i'd love to go to sweden. half my fav music comes from there or norway/finland.
Favorite book?
favorite book ever? probably kv - slaughter house-five.
but an honorable mention is nick & norah's infinite playlist. which is actually being made into a movie starring the only woman i'd ever marry, kat dennings.
Where do you hope to see yourself in a few years?
umm. in a few years? still making music, cause i know i'll always be writing. hopefully not single. hopefully doing more producing of bands, which i've been doing but not enough of. i like helping people.

Mike's music has a great sound to it, plus he's cute. It's a bit different, but different is good in this world. He has originality. Take a listen to him, let me know what you think!

Don't shoot me, but here's some more Harry Potter inspired Wizard Rock! Hey, who could blame me? This guy has sweet tunes, catchy lyrics, and a fab personality. What's not to love?
Here you are-- Justin Finch Fletchley & The Sugar Quills
www.myspace.com/justinfinchfletchley
-------------
So, Justin, what made you start JFF&TSQ?
All my life I wanted to have a band based on Harry Potter. I just never really knew what Harry Potter was…until these books came out. Then I realized…”Hey, I could actually form this band.” And the rest is…well, history.
The character your band is named after doesn't have very much written about him. With that, where do you get some of the inspiration from your songs, if not from the character himself?
You’re right, there isn’t much written about JFF in the Harry Potter series. But that’s okay. JFF was there, as a student along side Harry, Ron, Hermione, Neville and Draco. So I write from either what I imagine JFF would have experienced and/or witnessed or from what I imagine JFF would have heard from his other classmates.
I know Harry Potter has changed my life. How has it changed yours?
I quit my job and I tour the USA and Canada playing this underground phenomenon called Wizard Rock. My life is forever changed and I love it.
What are some other influences of yours?
Awesome books and awesome friends influence me.
Favorite character?
Snape. Is he friend or is he foe? Is he neither or is he both?
What's one of your favorite parts of meeting your fans?
I love meeting the fans. There are so many favorite parts about it. I really like the quick random stories they tell me. Usually they are always a good laugh.
I know someone who sings Whompy Stole My Pillow under her breath while doing things, someone else who screams Oh we like you Viktor Krum, and I find myself telling people Honeyduke's is not a doughnut shop. Little things like that, that show how much your fans love you- how does that make you feel?
That’s awesome.
Is there anything you don't like about touring?
There are two things. The first day and the last day. I don’t like leaving my family and friends at home. But I get over it quickly. The other part I don’t like is when the tour is ending and I’m riding up I-95 to head home I don’t want the tour to end. So really, there isn’t anything I actually dislike about touring.
You have amazing stage presence. What gives you the energy-for lack of a better word-to perform like that?
. I’ve been a live music performer for years now and the stage is truly where I am the happiest. Don’t get me wrong. I’m the happiest person I know but there is just something that happens on stage that can never happen anywhere else in my life. So what gives me the energy? I guess it might be a combination of the stage, the music, and the live crowd. It blows my mind.
Alas, my least favorite question: The series technically is over, so what do you think will become of Wizard rock?
That’s a question that has been bounced around for quite some time now and know one truly knows the correct answer. In my opinion I think that Wizard Rock has the potential to go on for a long time with or without the current Wizard Rock musicians. The Harry Potter series will continue to attract new readers just like Lord of the Rings or films like Star Wars does so why won’t Wizard Rock continue to attract new listeners?
-----------
Justin put on an amazing show. I would know, I got to see him on one of my many adventures =). His music makes me wanna dance around and be happy. He seriously loves meeting his fans and doing a fantastic job. He makes me smile, and I know that if you check him out and listen, you'll be smiling too!

I love the UK. Now, I'm not going to tell you where this is being typed from, but no matter what country, my fantastic music taste doesn't change. It just seems that the UK, England in particular, is overflowing with talent. This band here is right out of London and is fabulous.
I'm here with Greg O'Grady of The Chase!
www.myspace.com/thechaseuk
-----------------
How did The Chase get together?
The Chase kinda formed when me, Alex, and the the two Tom's started covering punk songs and learning to write our own stuff in a bedroom when we were teenagers..It was pretty noisy and out of tune, we didn't really own proper musical equipment or know how to use it but i suppose it was somewhat of a learning process.
One night me and tom were out drinking in a local, worn down empty Rock bar and saw Mikey performing in a band that night..We were really taken back by his unique voice and rather animated stage show, i remember him launching himself headfirst into the small crowd in front of the stage and me and Tom staring at each other in shock, possibly excitement! Instantly wanting to share a stage with him i jotted down my number on the back of an empty guitar string packet..We like to think this is where The Chase really started though..
Where do you get some of the inspiration for your music?
All sorts of places i guess..Lyrics seem to come from both personal experiences but also things we feel as a band a lot too..We all are big music fans ourselves and are inspired by lots of different artists, old, new and a few embarrassing ones too!
What's one of your favourite things about being on stage?
I think i can speak for all of us here, that there's nothing like the feel of playing a show to people just as excited about your music as you are..the buzz of people singing along, dancing and going insane to your music is a feeling like no other. Our fan base is still small though and we are often still introducing our music to new people live, which is also a challenging but enjoyable experience..
We try and put on as entertaining and energetic a live show as possible, and there's no question that the more the audience gives us the more of a show we give back.
Favourite movie?
Its a fight out between The Lost Boys, Teenwolf, and most things Tim Burton..
Any info you want to share about the full length cd you guys are putting together?
Yeah..Work on the album should be completed by around spring time next year, we are writing the new stuff at the moment. The songs are sounding really cool and they are without doubt a huge step forward from the last E.P..
This time we are demo-ing and doing lots of pre production with each track, where as before we'd usually write a bunch of songs, take them straight to the studio and just see how they turn out. A lot more thought, time and effort are going into the new material.
We will be putting out some new stuff online after the Summer, and aiming to continue balancing writing and touring..You can defo expect something rather different to the old material, but its still us and still The Chase, and we cannot wait for everyone to hear it..
--------------
I seem to have a ton of luck getting not only bands that are actually good, but the people in them good looking. Anyway... aside from that and Greg's stellar taste in movies, The Chase is an ace choice. Though Greg says that their CD is going to differ from the old, I guarantee it'll be great!

Well, which of you fabulously good looking guys am I speaking to?
You're speaking to Rob (drummer) and Joe (frontman)
I always love asking this question- Where did the name come from?
Long story cut short! We were at band practise and our first gig was coming up very soon and we needed a name, as we sat down to think of one joe's (singer/guitars) mum came through the door with a plate of tea & biscuits haha!
Where do you hope to see T&B in the next couple of years?
We hope to make it about as big as you me at six! just to sell out Uk tours!
What is one of your favorite parts of playing live?
The buzz of the crowd singing along and getting messy!
Favorite book?
sorry, i dont read lol. but i think jakes a big fan of Harry Potter books haha!
Who inspires you to do what you do?
Massive inspiration is bands such like blink 182, sum 41, New Found Glory and British band 'Paige'. These are all heroes of mine ;)
Do you see yourselves as inspiration for any of your fans?
yeh. s'ppose we do :P
How did T&B come together?
Through school and msn :)

Alright, though some of you may be sick of hearing about Wizard Wrock, I feel it's important to share about. These are people who took "just a book" and made it into so much more! It's really amazing that so many people have such a strong connection to something. It's one thing bringing us closer together in this crazy world.
Here is Danny Dementor!
www.myspace.com/dannydementor
------------
You don't sound like all of the other Wizard rockers out there. What inspires your unique sound?
Well I've always had rock and roll in my ice cold veins but even deeper than that, in between the blood cells whatever that liquid is that cells float in...that is made of hip hop juice. And the wiz movement was the perfect environment for me to excrete that juice.
What are some ways that Harry Potter has changed your life?
Harry Potter Saved My Life is actually the title of one of my songs. When I was down and out and addicted to every imaginable drug, Harry was there for me. Well not really but that would be an awesome story. In reality, Potter instilled in me the urge to read all the time, a desire the public school system squashed out of me. My new addiction has really enlightened me and kept me from watching too much tv.
What made you want to be a Wizard rocker?
I have a friend, who shall remain nameless, who is a very prominent wrocker. I noticed the amount of love and excitement at his shows. I wanted in. It's a great community. Also the krunked out beat of my heart told me that I could introduce something new and fun to these fun loving people.
What got you started with your interest in Harry Potter?
actually resisted HP for years and years. For some reason I thought something so popular couldn't possibly live up to the hype or even fall just short of it. Finally, I gave in. My friend let me borrow the whole set and I read it in a couple months. I admit it, I was wrong.
I hate asking this question, but I feel it needs to be asked- Now that the series is technically over, what do you feel will become of Wizard rock?
I can't really say. I'm impressed that wrock has been around for so long and remained strong. Hopefully it will continue on as long as it is a positive environment. When it ceases to be positive I hope it dies a horrible death...
----------------
"Danny", who told me " I know this makes it hard to interview me but I prefer to remain in a shroud-like shroud of mystery. So yes, Danny could be my real name...", is one of the people who makes this kind of music so amazing. He said it himself- he was a druggie who found light. Harry Potter happened to be that light. I know for a fact he's not the only one who was affected in such a way. He's big talent. I suggest taking a listen to someone so fantastic.

Here is the fabulous Siriusly Hazza P !

siriuslyhazzap.wordpress.com
-----------
Which fabulous band member am I talking to?
Cathrin :)
What is the best part of being in a Wizard rock band?
Getting to play shows is dead good, especially when it's with other bands. We never imagined we'd be doing shows when we first started (mainly because we were crashing around on the pots and pans) but it's really fun :)
So, what advice do you have for those wanting to make their own band?
Don't go too crazy with the effects on your recording programme - we used to sound like we were recording down a sewer with the amount of reverb we used. Other than that, just go for it!
How did you guys graduate from pots and pans to where you are now?
Well, after the pots and pans we started to use like, preset keyboard beats coz we couldn't really play the keyboard at that point. From there we started to write (very) basic keyboard parts and they just gradually got better. & We added a guitar in there quite recently too. :)
Besides Harry Potter, what are some of your other influences?
Hmm, thats tricky.
Other wrock bands I guess, quite alot of our stuff is piano-based like the Moaning Myrtles.
Well, I understand the Siriusly, but where did the rest of the band's name come from?
We seem to get asked this quite alot haha. It's a nickname for Harry :) Harry Potter = Hazza P.
Favorite character?
The marauders, deffo. Though not Peter... He was never as cool as the others.
What got you to start SHP ?
We went to see Harry and the Potters last May, it was amazin' & made us wanna get involved in wrock.
---------
Cathrin was super sweet! Considering that they went from banging pots and pans to playing shows and making great music, they're an inspiration. It's bands like Siriusly Hazza P that make me love bands even more. They found something they love and then ran with it. I'm so happy to have been able to see more into how much time goes into this.
